When I hear the question, “Do men prefer women with long hair ?”, I can let you in on a little secret. Maybe you have heard that men just love long hair on women. It’s true, they do! They feel that it looks more feminine.
For most of my thirties while living in Chicago I had short hair in every different style. I did the sleek Victoria Beckham bob, the choppy Meg Ryan in French Kiss look, and even the Sharon Stone Muse look, and I never lacked for dates. Not one man told me that they did not like my hair. I even received many compliments, telling me how sexy I was.
Needless to say, I was shocked when I moved to L.A., married a Latin man and learned that short hair was not going to fly. I have very thin, dry hair and if it grows past the middle of my neck it is actually see-through because it is so thin! Naturally, I prefer to wear it short. But it doesn’t matter how scraggly and ridiculous it looks, as long as it is not short, my husband is in heaven. I did grow it all the way down my back for him once, but I wound up putting my hair in a ponytail all the time because it was so raggedy. Of course, he thought it looked amazing! (Fortunately my husband also loves me with no make-up. I’m actually very lucky that I can look like what I consider to be a wreck, but he still thinks I look like a goddess.) The most puzzling thing to me is that my husband loves it when I wear my hair up in a French twist or ponytail. I don’t see the difference in those styles compared to short hair… eventually I couldn’t take it anymore! Now, I manage to keep my hair just at the middle of my neck, and he seems okay with its length — after much discussion.
I once had a boss who required that the all ladies in the office wear our hair down. We were not allowed to wear a sophisticated French twist or ponytail, as our boss believed it would make a difference to the potential male clients. It used to really burn us ladies up! How dare a man tell us how to wear our hair! Still, when interviewing men, I must admit that 90% tell me that they prefer longer hair on a woman. I have asked many men exactly why they prefer this, and they all tell me the same thing. “ Long hair is more feminine.” “If the woman has short hair, I feel like I’m with a guy.” “Long hair is a turn-on.”
So when asked do men prefer women with long hair ?, I’d have to say sometimes.
Personally, I don’t get it, I mean if the woman is in shape, stylish, and has a great cut, what is the difference? But it does make a big difference to the men and it’s a small enough adjustment to make, so you might want to keep this in mind on your next trip to the hairdresser.
